Ahead of the curve

Riverland growers and industry are invited to an 'ahead of the curve' meeting on Thursday 7 December at the Barmera Field Day Site function centre.

Attendees will receive new information from the Fruit Fly Response Program about combatting fruit fly outbreaks in the summer season ahead and moving into 2024.

Data trends suggest that fruit fly outbreaks will begin to increase in January 2024 and peak in March 2024.

This meeting is an opportunity to reduce the outbreak data curve and explore where greater impact can be achieved through collective efforts.

Presenters from the PIRSA Fruit Fly Response teams and the Riverland Fruit Fly committee will share insights and answer questions. These include:

  • Con Poulos, new Fruit Fly Response Program Incident Controller
  • Katharina Merkel, SARDI Senior Research Scientist and Entomologist
  • Jason Size, Summerfruits SA
  • Mark Doecke, Citrus SA.

The meeting will also outline the Sterile Insect Technology (SIT) program and how it works best after other control measures.

Presentations and discussions commence at 10 am, followed by a Barmera SIT facility tour.

If you wish to attend, please RSVP at Eventbrite.
